The 50 Best Tottenham Players of the Premier League Era
5. Robbie Keane (first stint)
Position: Striker
Years Served: 2002-2008
Stats: 239 appearances, 102 goals
Keane was 22 when he joined Tottenham and had already been through four different clubs with varying degrees of success. Something switched on at Tottenham though, and Keane provided an instant lift to the club just as Teddy Sheringham’s second stint with the club was winding down. Even as Tottenham flirted with relegation and other players like Jermain Defoe threatened his hold in the starting XI, Keane consistently put up exceptional numbers.
In the six seasons of his first stint with the club, he never scored less than 13 goals and even managed 23 in his final season before joining Liverpool. He was a devilishly good striker precisely when Tottennham needed exactly such a player.
