One of the Best Young Strikers in the World: Tottenham’s Very Own, Harry Kane
Harry Kane’s Early Beginnings
Born in Chingford, London, a suburban area in east London, Harry Kane’s family is only five miles away from White Hart Lane by car. By train? That would be 30 minutes. Basically, it’s easy to see why his whole family are Tottenham Hotspur supporters — it’s due to the short distance from their house.
However, it’s one thing to be a supporter of your hometown team and actually playing for them. Case in point, Harry Kane played for his local football youth academy team, Ridgeway Rovers Youth Football Club than sign with Tottenham’s academy right away.
Ridgeway Rovers’ academy is known for producing three footballers, two of which are still playing and on Spurs’ current squad: Andros Townsend and Harry Kane. The other player who graduated from Ridgeway Rovers is one of football’s best players in the world, David Beckham.
By age 8, Harry Kane was still a member of Ridgeway Rovers in 2001, and was spotted by an Arsenal scout. We all know how this ended: Harry Kane joined rival club Arsenal instead of turning it down and joining Tottenham’s academy. But there’s a good reason for Kane’s decision. Obviously this isn’t coming from Harry Kane’s mouth, but rather this is a thought process of how young footballers may think if they were offered a professional contract from a Premier League club’s scout.
As a young child who dreams of being a footballer, you need to join a football academy to train. Even though Andros Townsend, Harry Kane himself and England legend David Beckham have come through Ridgeway Rovers’ football academy, if an Arsenal scout has taken a liking to you, it makes sense to accept an offer.
