Plenty of clubs were rumored to be interested in the services of Christian Eriksen before Tottenham bagged him as part of the post-Gareth Bale shopping spree. He had been lighting it up for Ajax and Denmark for a couple of seasons prior, though there were still doubts if the 21-year-old could handle the rigors of the Premier League.
Eriksen quickly put those doubts to bed, however, with ten goals and 12 assists in all competitions during his first season. Perhaps more importantly, his game continued to evolve and vary, so much so that he managed to be a vital part of Villas-Boas, Tim Sherwood and now Mauricio Pochettino’s very different systems. Though others might challenge him for the title, he is the starting XI’s primary playmaker for the foreseeable future.
