Transfer fee: £5 million
Former club: MK Dons (Football League 1)
Years with Spurs: May 31, 2015 — Present
Stats: 22 appearances, 4 goals 1 assist (in all competitions, thus far)

It might seem way too early to include Dele Alli on this list at all – much less at number one – but what’s more important about the young Englishman’s signing is what it says about the future of Tottenham itself. The youngster’s regular appearances on the first team are a testament to the power of efficient scouting over expensive splashes into the transfer market.

The club bought Alli from MK Dons on February 2, 2015 only to immediately loan the 19-year-old back to the club for the duration of the season. He was subsequently brought into the first-team squad in the summer and – thanks in part to injuries – has quickly established himself as a member of Tottenham’s starting XI. He’s even earned an England call up along the way. While there’s no telling what can happen with Alli and his development at the club, what can be said is that Tottenham are finally finding its feet when it comes to the transfer market.

If those bargains looked great, then these expensive transfers will hurt your eyes.
