Transfer fee: £15 million
Former club: Blackburn Rovers (Premier League)
Years with Spurs: July 1, 2008 — July 1, 2013
Stats: 62 appearances, 5 goals, 11 assists (in all competitions)

Once slated as the next David Beckham, Arsenal youth product David Bentley became anything but. He would leave north London for Blackburn, where he admittedly did perform reasonably well. His return to his boyhood club’s rival would prove to be disastrous, however.

Bentley quickly established that something had been lost between Blackburn and Tottenham. After scoring only once in his first season, he was quickly supplanted in right midfield by Aaron Lennon. Considering that Lennon came in at a fraction of Bentley’s cost and wasn’t even exactly a goal machine himself, this was a pretty damning critique.

The Englishman ended up being loaned out four times by Tottenham before eventually retiring from the game on June 30, 2014.
