It’s late, but here’s your “morning” Tottenham Hotspur news.
Happy Halloween for those of you who still celebrate this spooky holiday filled with candy, costumes and scares. If you’re the type who decides to keep all of your lights off in your house, to pretend that you’re not home, we at Hotspur HQ will still salute you (salute on Halloween?) for deciding to not bother with little kids and candy. If you are still into Halloween, then Hotspur HQ still salutes you (why are we saluting on Halloween?) for keeping a tradition alive and well in the 21st century. And with that out of the way, it’s time to read the news below.
That was a good burn by Bayern Munich’s English Twitter account, but there’s a couple of things that were left out since Tottenham’s twitter account didn’t reply back. Don’t worry guys, Hotspur HQ will do the replying on your behalf, just on here instead. So check out the bullet points:
Winning 11 straight games to start a season in the five top European leagues — which became a domestic double for Tottenham, the first English club to pull off the feat in the First Division in the 20th century (1960-61) — is more impressive and memorable than going to the Champions League for the second time in the Club’s history.
One is an accomplishment which features the Club winning two championships, as well as owning a winning streak that will probably last forever, since it has yet to be matched or even broken to this day.
Tottenham didn’t make it to the Champions League at the end of the 2011-12 Premier League season for a lack of trying, it wasn’t their fault. Why?
Because Bayern Munich lost the Champions League final to Chelsea. Now unless you like losing championship finals, then that “burn tweet” hurts you more than it does Tottenham.
Since Bayern lost in the ’11-’12 Champions League final, but won a year later against Borussia Dortmund in the 2012-13 Champions League final. They missed out on being the first club to repeat as champions in the modern Champions League era, since the tournament was rebranded in 1992.
Too bad Bayern Munich let one that slip away from them ;D
“It’s true that we are very difficult for the opponent. Our mentality and the way we take every game, we show that we are very difficult team for the opponent. We need to carry on in the same way. We need to improve. In football you can always improve. We are very happy in the way the first 10 games in the Premier League have gone. But we can do better. This is our challenge.”
It’s not hard to point out that the offense needs to score more goals and when they have the lead, they have to put teams away — kill the game off. A 4-1 win over Manchester City and a 5-1 win over A.F.C. Bournemouth is proof that Tottenham can do this. But they’re not consistent enough yet.
While Miloš Veljković has ended a very long scoring drought — he is a center-back and they’re not really there for scoring — it is a good sign to see that the 20-year-old Serbian international is playing some football.
It may only be for Tottenham’s second team but it’s a start, considering all that Miloš Veljković has been through with failed loans and injuries. Besides, he’s able to work with Cameron Carter-Vickers in the U-21 Premier League and form a very good central defense partnership despite the three year age gap difference.
There is one good talking point out of this interview with Hugo Lloris. It’s not that the entire conversation is bad, but only one question is worth a look.
At one point, Heurelho Gomes said that Watford was more welcoming to the Brazilian goalkeeper than when he joined Tottenham a few seasons ago. Again, it’s not a shot at his former club, he was just pointing out the difference in how both teams approached him when they were interested in signing the keeper.
So here’s what Hugo Lloris had to say when asked a family bond question regarding the current setup of Tottenham. It should be noted that this is in no way related to Heurelho Gomes, it’s merely a coincidence this question was asked.
Tottenham Hotspur: You told us last season about the importance of a ‘family’ bond in the squad.
Hugo: “We have a lot of honest guys in the squad with a great mentality so it’s really easy to come into this team. It’s really positive. These players bring their skills but also their personality and mentality. I think it’s what the gaffer expects – a great atmosphere in the team, a great mentality, a working mentality and we need to be ready to win all together, to suffer all together, to learn from defeats together. It’s not just about one or two players, we’re a team and if we want to bring the club to the next step, this is the foundation.”
Every single club will have a family bond atmosphere, it’s how it’s done will be different. With Mauricio Pochettino now the manager of Tottenham it seems that he’s making sure everyone is more close knit than how the team was previously managed under the numerous coaches who ran Spurs these past few seasons.
