Tottenham Hotspur Links: 10/31/15 Afternoon Edition
The afternoon edition of Tottenham Hotspur’s non-Halloween related news continues on with plenty more to discuss.
The morning edition started off with a bang with Bayern Munich and Tottenham’s official Twitter accounts having an interesting exchange with one another. No harm done or feelings hurt. However this afternoon will be much more mellow with the news. It’ll be more straight forward with Mauricio Pochettino news, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Watford news regarding Spurs. And then there’s news about Christian Eriksen getting a new deal. To the links!
Mauricio Pochettino feels that too many managers in England — all four divisions — are being sacked at an unsustainable pace. They generally don’t get much time to work with a team as the average tenure for a manager in England is 1.64 years, but when you go to the Premier League, it only rises to just 2.36 years.
The Daily Mail continues on, by saying that a record of 47 managers were let go last season across all football leagues in the world. There were five managers who got sacked in the Premier League and 20 more managers coming from the Football League Championship.
Here’s Mauricio Pochettino on how hard it is to be a manager in football:
“There is less tolerance, it’s true. Football is difficult to do miracles and we need to adapt our jobs and to a new era in football. It won’t be easy, but we need to try to adapt our job in the new mentality of football.”

- Aston Villa’s caretaker manager, Kevin MacDonald says there should be no excuses from his players while possibly getting advice from Tim Sherwood
- [via Birmingham Mail]
Kevin MacDonald says that it’s time for his players to pick themselves up and make no excuses for what happens from now on. He also says that foreign players should only take three weeks to get acclimated to a new league and environment instead of seven months that Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger used as a time frame.
Just because it worked for Kevin MacDonald in Scotland, when he was still playing, doesn’t mean that it will work again in a different era of football. If his style doesn’t work, the entire team could very well just ignore MacDonald’s tactics and decide to relegate themselves at the end of the season.

An initial thought is why would Tottenham be interested in a defender? But then again, at just 24-years-old and a regular starter, perhaps signing the Greece international wouldn’t be so bad if Tottenham could do it this January.

Federico Fazio is surely going to be leaving whether it’s this winter or in the summer. The Argentine center-back is no longer in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans moving forward so it would be good to get a suitable replacement to play alongside Kevin Wimmer when Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are resting.
Interestingly enough, any head-to-head bids that Tottenham happen to be involved in doesn’t always go their way. If Manolas doesn’t mind going to a very young club though, with huge aspirations, then this would be a good deal to explore for both parties.
It’s nice to see that Étienne Capoue is doing good in the Premier League with Watford, but this move doesn’t hurt Tottenham one bit. Yes, the depth would have been nice to have however that’s where Nabil Bentaleb, Mousa Dembélé, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld will come into play.

Besides, while Capoue is showing that he can cut it in the Premiership, Eric Dier is looking to be the real deal as a defensive midfielder — a position that he played with Sporting Lisbon — but would transition to center-back for a while when he joined Tottenham.
All in all, Spurs got a good deal, as did Watford, so there’s really nothing to talk about and say a not-so-witty comment such as “Tottenham let another player go and he’s doing well elsewhere”.
- Christian Erisken to be offered a new deal
- [via Mirror]
It only makes sense to offer Christian Eriksen a new deal. The 23-year-old Danish international signed an £11 million deal in August 2013 and has been a huge success since coming come over from Ajax. His current contract will expire in the summer of 2016, so negotiations should begin soon. The Mirror reports that a possible two years could be added which will see Christian Eriksen remain with Tottenham until 2018. It’s also a way to ward off any potential teams trying to sign him this January.

Hotspur HQ hopes that you have enjoyed the morning and afternoon editions of Tottenham Hotspur Links. While there wasn’t that many editorial pieces today on Halloween, the thought is that these daily links for today would be more than enough. If not, then please look forward to tomorrow and the month of November to see more news aside from daily links. The evening edition will come soon.
EDIT: There will be no evening edition on Halloween. Why? Because it’s evening, and families are taking their kids out for trick-or-treating. Meaning that there isn’t much news to link to, funny enough Hotspur HQ forget this little tidbit throughout the day. Oh well, moving on.
