Tottenham Hotspur Links: 10/29/15 Evening Edition
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is the star attraction in tonight’s news for reasons unknown.
As stated in the previous daily link posts today (morning and afternoon editions), there are plenty of Tottenham news to digest. Tonight’s evening news is mostly centered on Harry Kane for some apparent reason. It just so happened to be the main talking points for tonight. Apparently everybody wants to talk about Tottenham’s star striker. So with that, here’s the first news which is Harry Kane related. Enjoy.
– Manchester United still trying to Harry Kane [via Daily Express]
This is not surprising. Manchester United really want Harry Kane but it won’t happen. Here’s why. They have Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial already. That’s two strikers. Man United just paid £55 million to land Martial from AS Monaco, they would have to bid the same amount so that they could get rejected by Daniel Levy. Harry Kane has struggled to find his form until recently, why would Louis van Gaal waste money? The Red Devils could sign another striker instead and not get rejected by Tottenham.
– Five players Mauricio Pochettino should axe in January [via Transfer Tavern]
Here are the five players that Transfer Tavern have listed to be axed:
Federico Fazio – Yes
Tom Carroll – No (loan move, yes)
Mousa Dembélé – No
Alex Pritchard – No (loan move, yes)
Andros Townsend – Yes
Only Federico Fazio and Andros Townsend deserve to be axed. Fazio should have been gone this summer to West Bromwich Albion but negotiations failed. Since a dreadful showing in the Capital One Cup loss to Arsenal, the Argentine center-back hasn’t been given another chance. For Andros Townsend, he’s hit or miss. Clinton N’Jie has taken his spot as a backup winger to Érik Lamela. Speaking of Lamela, Townsend isn’t better than him right now, let alone being better than N’Jie.
Tom Carroll and Alex Pritchard, at the moment, need a loan move to help them out. Carroll hasn’t gotten much playing time and Pritchard who is injured can’t beat out Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son at attacking midfield. Lastly, Mousa Dembélé deserves to stay with the team as he was one of Tottenham’s best players early in the season. His return from injury shows that he’s still one of the team’s better players.

– Toby Alderweireld hails partnership with Jan Vertonghen [via Sky Sports]
Upon signing Toby Alderweireld from Atlético Madrid, there was excitement because Tottenham would have a solid center-back pairing with the Belgian duo knowing each other very well. However, on the Belgium national team, they don’t actually play center-back, both of them play on the outside instead. Jan Vertonghen plays left-back and Toby Alderweireld plays right-back. Was there some worry? Kinda, but not really.
Both of them have played together from their days in Ajax so some things should have carried over even if that was years ago. Here’s Toby Alderweireld talking about working together with Jan Vertonghen.
“It is nice to play with him, we know each other well and I think you can see that on the field. We know what to do in certain situations. It is very important. We know from each other that when he makes a mistake I cover and when I make I mistake he picks it up.”
Signing Toby Alderweireld is still one of Tottenham’s better signings of this past summer and it has shown so far. In a few seasons, the Belgian center-back could be one of Spurs’ best signings in recent memory.

Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen haven’t been playing together in the starting eleven for that long, but their play since last November seems like they have for many seasons.
Technically speaking, both Kane and Eriksen have yet to play an entire season from August to May as starters, until this season — Christian Eriksen’s injury notwithstanding as they opened the season together and will most likely end the season as starters. Playing together has helped the two of them have a certain understanding when it comes to their approach at the 18-yard box. Here’s Harry Kane discussing this matter.
“We play very well together. We have an understanding around the 18-yard box about the movements we are going to make. We get on really well off the pitch too. The more chances he makes for me, the better!”
This understanding was prominent on Kane’s second goal of the game against Bournemouth so here’s hoping that it will continue for the rest of the season.
– Harry Kane could repeat his ’14-’15 season goal tally [via Sky Sports]
Jamie Redknapp believes that Harry Kane is going to be on a run of form after his hat-trick helped him settle in. Despite a rough spell to start the season this hasn’t fazed Redknapp’s prediction. With four goals to close out the first three months of the season, maybe Kane could go on a run and score.
It sounds like a stretch to think that Kane is back and will score more goals, potentially matching last season’s tally but it could happen. Harry Kane did well in the Europa League last sesaon, gained confidence and was in form where he took the Premier League by storm. Aston Villa will be a test to see if Harry Kane is back or not.
