Tottenham Hotspur Links: 10/29/15 Afternoon Edition
Plenty of afternoon news regarding our club, Tottenham Hotspur.
There were three stories in the morning edition to help out with the afternoon and evening editions and so far it looks like it may have helped. Or rather, today is just a busy news day. There’s too much too choose from that the afternoon links will be split in half and used as left overs for the evening edition. All in all, October 29, seems to be a very good day for Tottenham news for everyone to read. Enjoy your afternoon links!
– Tottenham: Genuine top four contenders? [via The Boot Room]
Tottenham are serious top four contenders this season. Does it matter that Chelsea and Liverpool are currently undergoing changes this season? No, it doesn’t. After missing out in cruel circumstances since Spurs last got into the UEFA Champions League, it’s time that they catch some breaks. Can it happen? The Boot Room believes so and the author makes a compelling case as to why.
“The Spurs team now is a different animal to the one under Andre Villas-Boas’ failed tutelage. Tottenham are now one of the fittest teams in the league, relentlessly chasing the ball down whilst keeping a resolute and organised shape in defence. Not only are they incredibly hard working, but Tottenham also have quality players that can change a game out of nowhere. Their pressing style, coupled with a series of quality players, has turned the North London club into a very dangerous team. Not only do Spurs have the ability to score goals, but they are also a very strong defensive unit.”
In a nutshell, this paragraph above is what will help carry Tottenham to a top four finish. Manchester City and Arsenal will battle it out for the League championship and the next two spots are completely wide open. This season has been a good one for everyone watching and it could get even more crazy as it continues.
– The future of Miloš Veljković looks gloom [via HITC]
Since early 2015, Tottenham have been giving out contract extension to all of their youth academy products. Graduates who are now a part of the first team and ones who are progressing very well. One player who seems to not have gotten a contract extension and is currently in limbo is Miloš Veljković. The 20-year-old Serbian defender is older than his center-back teammate, Cameron Carter-Vickers. He is also older than Harry Winks and Josh Onomah but yet hasn’t gotten a look with the first team.
It’s not like the Serbian international would crack into the starting lineup and knock off Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. But at the very least he could partner up with Kevin Wimmer if given a chance. Unlike the more polished and seemingly better player in Carter-Vickers, CCV needs more time to grow. Veljković on the other hand is ready to play now. Hopefully this post/pre-season sees him get some minutes so that Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t have to spend money on a center-back instead.

– Michael Dawson discusses Tottenham’s top four chances [via HITC]
Michael Dawson was speaking with talkSPORT and discussed his former club’s chances of reaching the top four. In a way this link could be semi-related to The Boot Room’s article about Tottenham’s top four chances,
“Yeah, definitely. With Chelsea struggling, there’s an opportunity for one of the other teams to break in, and with the way Spurs are playing, and their defensive strength, I’m sure they’ll be right up there. It’s a great statistic for Spurs [having the best defensive record in the league].”
HITC also makes sure to mention that Tottenham have only conceded eight goals in ten games which makes them the joint best defense in the Premier League this season. Spurs’ defense makes it hard for opponents to break down. This gives Tottenham’s offense an opportunity to score the game winner and/or an equalizer.
– Lille midfielder, Sofiane Boufal, will cost Tottenham £22 million [via Enfield Independent]
More news regarding Andros Townsend but this news is more about a possible replacement being lined up for Tottenham. Except, the price tag for a buy-to-loan deal is already more than four times the amount that Spurs paid to buy and loan Dele Alli this past January from MK Dons.

The French-born Moroccan Lille midfielder Sofiane Boufal is apparentely available for a January transfer, according to Enfield Independent. So long as Tottenham decide to loan him back to the French club for the remainder of the season.
When Tottenham bought Dele Alli this past January, MK Dons accpeted a £5 million bid. But spending £21.6 million for the 22-year-old midfielder is expensive. Sofiane Boufal may be a much better player/talent than Andros Townsend is at this point in their respective careers, but Daniel Levy will most likely pass on this deal.
However, since Boufal is available, allegedly, this would be a better move if Spurs are only considering Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Mönchengladbach who might not even be leaving the German club when he’s currently in form. As well as Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace. In fact, all three midfielders would cost too much for Spurs.
