Tottenham Hotspur Links: 10/25/2015 Evening Edition
Tottenham Hotspur and their fans are still reveling in their 5-1 victory over A.F.C. Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Tonight’s edition doesn’t have many links, in fact there’s only one. The others are just tweets, two of them but all three are interesting and worth discussing. Because there are three topics to talk about this will be a more detailed daily links post. With that, let’s start off with the first and only link for the evening.
– Gareth Crooks selects two Tottenham players for his Team of the Week [via BBC]
Seeing Tottenham’s star striker make Gareth Crooks’ Team of the Week isn’t a surprise. He did bag three goals and secure his first hat-trick of the season even if it was against a struggling A.F.C. Bournemouth side. Everyone is praising Harry Kane (me included) due to his Man of the Match performance against the Cherries. But expectations need to be quelled before people get disappointed again. This is where the praise should end for Harry Kane (more will be discussed below in the form of a tweet).
The second player on Crooks’ Team of the Week is Kyle Walker. The 25-year-old right-back has been a revelation this season. Walker would end last year injured and doubts would soon creep in if he would be a starter this season following Kieran Trippier’s signing, who has been a consistent starter for Burnley for the past few seasons.
Because of Trippier’s arrival the onus was on Kyle Walker to get fit and make sure that he was the starting right-back for the 2015-16 season. So far, that’s been the case and he hasn’t looked back. His form is as high as it’s been since before his injuries started.
– Alan Sugar is unimpressed with Harry Kane’s hat-trick [via Twitter]
This is where the praise for Harry Kane’s hat-trick against Bournemouth ends. Could Alan Sugar’s grandmother score against the Cherries’ Polish goalkeeper, Artur Boruc? Literally speaking? Absolutely not. Figuratively speaking though? Why yes, of course. Anybody can! Especially when the keeper is having a horrendous day.

The problem is, when Boruc fouls you in the box in the first half and gifts you another goal because he couldn’t catch, parry, punch or kick Toby Alderweireld’s header away in the second half. You should score two goals. This doesn’t take away the fact that Harry Kane had to work hard to get these goals even if it didn’t look hard at all. But, Kane has to be consistent for him to be “back in form”. This is constructive criticism. If he scores a second hat-trick against Aston Villa, then he’s definitely back, because he’s able to score six goals in two games. Until then, he’s not back just yet.
– Taylor Twellman talks about DeAndre Yedlin [via Twitter]
Where do we start with this tweet? Taylor Twellman is at least half right on DeAndre Yedlin’s status on the United States’ Men’s National Team. The main reason why Yedlin isn’t the starting right-back is because of Jürgen Klinnsmann’s fascination of playing players out of position for the hell of it rather than building chemistry.

Honestly speaking, he seems more crazy than Mauricio Pochettino in moving people around and experimenting with his lineup. For Tottenham, Pochettino moves players around out of necessity to improve the depth of some areas and finding certain players’ best fits for his team.
Players like Ryan Mason, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembélé are good examples that have worked.
With that said though, Taylor Twellman is correct that DeAndre Yedlin does need to improve on his defending. Whether it’s one-on-one defending or just overall to help his backline mates out with pressing and/or tackling. Yedlin’s been a defender his entire footballing career but how he plays, with his pace and an eye to always push up the pitch would suggest that he’s a right midfielder/winger. Which isn’t too far from the truth, DeAndre Yedlin can play both positions, he’s just not yet good in either one. As in, become very consistent whether it’s at right-back or right-midfielder.
