Who has impressed so far to make it onto Tottenham Hotspur’s bench?

Mauricio Pochettino knows who will be a part of his starting eleven on a regular basis. Some slight tweaks will be made based on injuries and matchups, but for the most part Pochettino will play a strong lineup each game which should give the team a chance to get a good result.

Tottenham’s 4-2-3-1 formation will include starters such as forward: Harry Kane, midfielders: Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son, Érik Lamela, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, defenders: Ben Davies, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Kyle Walker and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. These players are going to play in a majority of games during the 2015-16 season with minimal rest.

When looking at who are Tottenham’s best bench players, each player has done well enough to get regularly selected to make an appearance in games. Michel Vorm has to be automatically included as he is the team’s backup goalkeeper. As for the six remaining backups they include, defenders: Danny Rose and Kevin Wimmer and midfielders: Tom Carroll, Mousa Dembélé, Clinton N’Jie, and Andros Townsend. All of them have made an impact when given playing time this season as a spot starter or substitute player.

With only three subs to use and a pool of seven players to choose from for each game, Pochettino has a hard task on who to bring into games and who to take off to rest. One player who should be playing on a consistent basis after what he showed in his first game back versus Liverpool on Saturday is Mousa Dembélé, but Dele Alli and Eric Dier are ahead of him. For Clinton N’Jie, he is a talented player that Tottenham signed to help improve their squad, but Érik Lamela has earned the right to be a starter this season after making huge strides to improve. While Danny Rose started last year, he’s on the bench because Ben Davies has a better defensive game. Defense was something that Mauricio Pochettino wanted to improve on during the summer which has paid dividends already.

In general, Spurs’ bench is filled with players who could be starters in the FA Cup or the Europa League. Which will most likely happen. As for starting in the Premier League, it’s possible that it could happen, except the backups have to be better than who Mauricio Pochettino decides to select for his starting lineup.

There are also seven names who have been left off which are currently a part of Tottenham’s reserves to round out the 24-man squad. They are players who are most likely not going to be playing that much this season due to being way down the pecking order or are recovering from injuries that they picked up. The list includes goalkepper Luke McGee, defender Federico Fazio and midfielders Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason, Josh Onomah, Alex Pritchard and Harry Winks.

Summing up though, based on who’s doing good in training, the competition that Tottenham will be playing in and who Spurs will be facing, it’s possible that Mauricio Pochettino could play Dembélé, N’Jie and Rose and not see a dropoff in the starting eleven. Something like that is possible, because right now this is the best roster that Pochettino, Paul Mitchell and Daniel Levy has put together for Tottenham to compete in all competitions — besides the Capital One Cup in which they were knocked out prematurely. Tottenham can only get better when the season continues and once the January transfer window arrives.
