Matchday Live Post: Tottenham 4 – 1 Manchester City
By Ryan Wrenn
Fulltime
Well. That happened.
Tottenham have just won 4-1 against Manchester city, their first win against the Citizens since the spring of 2013 and only their second in the last ten attempts. It’s safe to say almost literally no one expected this scoreline in particular.
There’s a lot to pick apart here. While Tottenham still struggled in a lot of the same ways as they did in the first half – lack of open play opportunities in City’s box, etc – they still earned a simply massive win.

Those who might say that Tottenham benefited from some favorable calls not given should also note that Martín Demichelis should likely have been sent off with a second yellow for the foul on Lamela that ended up as Kane’s goal.
The headline here though must be that this is the best performance Spurs have had all season so far. Defensively they were as good – if not better – than ever before, including their recent clean sheets. There’s a lot more questions to ask about offense, but this is still their biggest goal haul of the season so far. How much of that could actually be attributed to City’s utter collapse in the second half remains to be sussed out.
But four unanswered goals to come back and win it! Kane scored! And so did Lamela! Lamela! Those are things that actually happened against the bane of Tottenham’s existence!
There are so many angles to analyze how this game was won. This space is simply not big enough for all of it. Check back with Hotspur HQ for a lot of hot takes in the coming days.
