Coming off of a second consecutive win overall this season, against Qarabağ FK in the Europa League, Tottenham’s next game in the Premier League would be their second huge test following a 1-1 draw on the road against the undefeated Leicester City at King Power Stadium. Mauricio Pochettino and his squad (which saw a few starters play in a midweek fixture) would face an in-form Crystal Palace side that caused some problems for Tottenham last season.

As the match progressed however, it became a little more clearer that the game plan from the previous two games (wins over Sunderland and Qarabağ) would be the perfect blueprint to beat Crystal Palace. While the concept of Mauricio Pochettino’s high-press counterattack style of offense seems easy on paper, to execute it well enough on the pitch is hard to do. It took Spurs about a full season to finally master it and produce consistent results — which have been Tottenham’s past three games including the win over Crystal Palace.

With Tottenham having now completed the first month of the season, August, on a winless streak. September has been much better, having won three consecutive matches. It seems that the team is on the upswing and could find themselves sitting in a good position two months into the season.
