North London Dispatch: Tottenham’s Season Until October
Europa League Group stage Matchday One: FK Qarabag
Spurs then return home to the High Road, kicking off their Europa League group stage on September 17th, taking on FK Qarabag of the Azerbaijan Premier League. A club that plays in the transcontinental country of Azerbaijan, located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, right at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, are considered to be the least worrisome of the three other outfits in the Spurs’ group stage, yet they still cannot be underestimated.
In this match, Pochettino is almost certain to use new signings Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier, and Clinton N’Jie.
Kevin Wimmer formerly of German side 1. FC Köln helped ensure one of the best defenses in all of the Bundesliga, conceding the fifth least amount of goals from the 2014-2015 season.
POPULAR: Tottenham Should Embrace the Europa League
Kieran Trippier will also most certainly make his debut, at right-back. Last year, playing all of Burnley’s league competitions, Trippier will continue to push Kyle Walker, similar to what Ben Davies did for Danny Rose last year.
Cameroon international and former Olympique Lyon forward Clinton N’Jie may very well feature for the Argentine’s side. N’Jie who has received unjust, yet exciting comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo and fellow country man Samuel Eto’o, could very well feature on either wing and or as the number nine. Many believe Clint’s blistering pace and technical footwork will be key to seeing Spurs through the European competition, as he may prove to be a vital asset going further into domestic fixtures.
