Matchday: Leicester City v Tottenham
By Ryan Wrenn
Fulltime
Well, what can be said? Tottenham played better for most of the half even if they were still held back by the gap between defense and midfield. Dele Alli came on. Dele Alli scored his first goal for the club. It seemed as if Tottenham might get out of this one with an actual win, however narrow.
And then, seconds later, Mahrez found space on the right flank and Vertonghen’s marking couldn’t stop the Algerian from scoring again, making him the Premier League’s early season top goalscorer. It was a good goal and it’s hard to get too upset about it.
It’s much easier to be riled up about the all-too-predictable next ten or so minutes. Leicester smelled blood and went for it, coming closest off a expertly delivered free kick from Mahrez. It was a typically panicked display from Tottenham, somehow losing momentum after scoring, conceding, and then looking eager to concede again. Spurs were lucky to have not lost the game as they flailed.
A draw was our prediction for the match, though we though it might have been a bit more entertaining than that. After three games, there’s still a lot of work to be done at Tottenham. But at least we didn’t lose it.
