Final Thoughts

Money will always be an issue with Daniel Levy whether he’s cheap or doesn’t want to spend much after Spurs’ disastrous summer of 2013. Although both Saido Berahino and Victor Wanyama are the best options at both positions, they would cost nearly £50 million together. Judging on how Spurs have played in two games, defensive mid looks more of a problem when Nabil Bentaleb is the substitute coming on for Eric Dier or Ryan Mason. Having a true holding midfielder would be able to shield the back four and teach Eric Dier the position.

At backup striker, Clinton N’Jie could fill in nicely and Nacer Chadli is an emergency third choice. Both players are already deemed to be good enough for now, meaning that this position should be fine. While Harry Kane is still going to be playing nearly ninety minutes, it can be scaled back with the recent signing of N’Jie.

If Levy can close out this summer window with a backup striker and defensive midfielder, it’ll go a long way to determine whether Spurs will be able to compete with the other top five clubs for a chance at a Champions League spot.
