Harry Kane Deserved to be Subbed Out

It might not have been the best move for Pochettino to make. Erik Lamela was the only option he had to replace Kane when the club’s star striker was subbed off in the 63rd minute, and the Argentine winger promptly failed spectacularly at keeping Tottenham in the game.

That said, Kane deserved to be subbed on on the basis of his play alone. He was not himself for the hour or so he was on the pitch. Perhaps it was that he was unaccustomed to playing along side another striker – Nacer Chadli in this case – or perhaps it was simply an off day. In any case, he contributed little even during Tottenham’s excellent first half. He recorded a single shot on target and, according to FourFourTwo’s metric, recorded only one quality chance created. That’s not the performance Spurs fans have come to expect from the England international.
