Danny Blanchflower puts Spurs ahead with a penalty [Photo: Logan Holmes]Peter Lorenzo wrote that Spurs came out for the second half with their ‘hearts on their shirts’. He wrote, ‘They played like demons in the most stirring, intense 45 minutes of soccer one could ever wish to witness’.

And within 3 minutes they had clawed their way back into the contest with a penalty from Danny Blanchflower. Smith back-headed a cross into the area and as White went to play the ball he was knocked over by a Benfica defender. The Spurs captain stepped up to place the ball in one corner of the net while the goalkeeper dived to the other.
