The Benfica team showed only two changes from the side which had defeated Barcelona in the Final twelve months earlier. They had an all Portuguese line-up and a a young 20-year-old player called Eusebio was now an important part of the team. Aguas and Augusto (2) had scored in the first game.
The previous Saturday, Spurs had defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final to book their return to Wembley.
