After falling behind due to a pair of inexplicable defensive lapses, Spurs thought they rescued a point thanks to Arnaut Danjuma’s late strike, only to be beaten at the death.
It was the dagger in Spurs’ top four hopes most have been expecting. You can’t lose to Bournemouth at home and expect to secure one of the four Champions League spots.
Here are the player ratings in another abject home performance, one that adds karosene to the behind-the-scenes fire at Hotspur Way.
Defence
Hugo Lloris 6/10
Under heaps of recent scrutiny, Hugo Lloris enjoyed a solid first half and wasn’t culpable for Bournemouth’s opener. He made an excellent reaction save off of a menacing Marcus Tavanier long range, left-footed effort.
Hugo wasn’t able to come off his line quickly enough to thwart Matias Vina’s dinked opener, though the Frenchman was provided a raw deal on the back of Pedro Porro’s giveaway.
He didn’t have much to say about Bournemouth’s winner either, although he wasn’t given a chance.
Clement Lenglet 8/10
Clement Lenglet started well before suffering what looked like a muscle injury that prematurely ended his afternoon.
The complexion of the match turned sour after Lenglet’s departure, thanks largely to Davinson Sanchez’s unwelcome introduction.
Eric Dier 5/10
Eric Dier made a sweet long-range pass in the first half and played fairly well in the first 30 or so minutes. However, he wasn’t able to pull up his socks and take a more prominent leadership role when Lenglet departed.
While not directly culpable for the Cherries goals, Dier didn’t do enough to rescue his team.
Cristian Romero 5/10
The Argentine endured one of his more disappointing outings of the season. He tried to be too cute at times, particularly with an egregious back-flicked giveaway in the 76th minut and wasn’t his usual domineering self. His passing was comparatively poor, too, only completing 81 percent, a subpar stat for a central defender.
Midfield
Oliver Skipp 6/10
Like most of his teammates, the Englishman enjoyed a sterling opening 30 minutes. He tracked back expertly and made some excellent slide tackles. He also pushed the tempo with his pace of play.
His second half drop off was palpable, something most of his colleagues can relate to.
Pierre Hojbjerg 4.5/10
The Dane’s passing was, for the most part, spot on. He completed over 90 percent of his passes. However, he didn’t dominate the midfield like he should against a side of Bournemouth’s quality, especially at home. Pierre needs to be much more imperious in the centre of the park.
He also jumped in, dummied easily on Bournemouth’s 95th minute winner.
Ivan Perisic 5/10
The Croatian has underwhelmed for most of the campaign, but started well against the Cherries. His intelligent cutback was deposited confidently by Son. Perisic wasn’t able to sustain his fruitful opening minutes, highlighted by a wild attempt that skied over early in the second half.
Pedro Porro 4/10
While Sanchez’s misfortunes were highlighted more, Porro also endured a nightmare encounter, particularly on the defensive side.
His first half giveaway was punished moments later, while the Portuguese’s flicked header in the second half put Spurs on the back foot, eventually leading to Sanchez’s missed tackle and Solanke’s finish.
While Porro knocked in a number of good crosses, his outing was overshadowed by poor defensive play.
Forwards and Subs
Harry Kane 6/10
Harry Kane impacted the game but not to a level he’ll be pleased with. Kane had four attempted shots, one shot on target, and two key passes. But he’ll be displeased with his overall performance against a team he should be scoring a brace against.
Son Heung-min 7/10
Sonny had a brilliant first half. He was omnipresent, consistently threatening Bournemouth’s goal. He slid home the opener and had another venomous drive parried over the bar by Neto. The South Korean also set Kane up a couple of times. Unfortunately, his production decreased substantially in the second half.
Dejan Kulusevski 5/10
The Swede wasn’t as instrumental as he should have been against one of the league’s relegation favorites. As always with Dejan, his lack of production wasn’t for lack of effort. Regardless, Kulusevski needs to be more impactful in the final third.
Davinson Sanchez 2/10
Davinson Sanchez endured his, and the supporters’, worst nightmare during his brief cameo. He wasn’t nearly stable enough on Bournemouth’s opening goal and made things worse on the away side’s second. The Colombian’s feeble attempted tackle failed, leading directly to Dominic Solanke’s smart finish.
The vociferous boos from supporters made matters worse, ensuring Sanchez’s early departure after being on the pitch for just over 20 minutes.
Arnaut Danjuma 8/10
Danjuma thought he rescued a point for Spurs thanks to a sweetly struck 88th minute equalizer. He was lively and spry throughout. Supporters will demand he starts a few games in the run in. He deserves it.
Richarlison 4/10
Richarlison’s rating is so low due to missing a sitter from close range that would have won the match. The Brazilian has been incredibly poor in front of goal in the top flight and has to finish those clear-cut opportunities.
