In light of everything happening off of the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur, the March international break kicked off positively, with one of Tottenham’s own making headlines Thursday evening.

Harry Kane makes history for England

Tottenham Hotspur striker and interim captain Harry Kane has broken yet another remarkable record. In a Euro 2024 qualifying match against Italy, Kane became England’s highest-ever goal-scorer with 54 goals after scoring from the spot.

Kane passed the Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney who was at the top of the list with 53 goals in 120 appearances for the Three Lions.

However, Kane has obliterated that record. Kane became the nation’s top scorer in just 81 appearances. There is the argument that Rooney played in a different position in the midfield, but it is still an impressive feat by the Tottenham man.

One of many records for Kane

It seems like all Harry Kane does is break records and score goals. Earlier in the season against Manchester City, Kane became Spurs’ all-time top goal-scorer, passing the late and great Jimmy Greaves with 268 goals.

Kane also holds the record for the most Premier League goals for one club when he scored his 185th PL goal for Spurs earlier in the season. Harry Kane also holds the record for the most away goals in Premier League history.

His attacking prowess is also seen in the number of golden boots he has won. Kane has won three golden boots in the Premier League (2015/16, 2016/17, 2020/21) and captured the golden boot at the 2018 World Cup with six goals. Kane also claimed the Playmaker award in the 2020/21 season with the most assists in the Premier League with 14.

In 310 Premier League appearances, Harry Kane has scored 204 goals and provided 45 assists. He is currently third on the all-time scoring list and may pass Wayne Rooney (208) before the season ends.

It seems that it is only a matter of if rather than when Kane will break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record, which currently stands at 260 goals.

Only one thing missing for the Englishman

Harry Kane is a terrific center forward and has been for several years now. He has had a remarkable career coming through the Tottenham academy ranks.

His critics can only say that he is missing a piece of silverware, and rightfully so.

Kane deserves some silverware to cap off the brilliant career he’s had thus far. However, players like Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and Hugo Lloris are dismissed in conversations or seen as not good enough because they have not won silverware is baffling.

Kane’s individual brilliance cannot be discounted because he has not won a trophy.

For example, if he did switch to Manchester City in 2021 and won the League Cup, does he immediately become an all-time great because of that? Would the fans there support him as the Spurs fans do?

The argument that a player who receives a winner’s medal by doing practically nothing is better than Kane is a ridiculous take.

I’m not saying that Kane does not need silverware in his career. I think he does, but to say he is not a world-class player because of that is off the mark.

Hopefully, Tottenham can get over the line at least once with Harry Kane leading the way before he hangs up his boots.
