The projected starting lineup is based on the Tottenham players spotted training freely in the lead up to the Rennes match, which was eventually called off, and other unverified reports. It is by no means Conte’s preferred 11, and, if it comes to fruition, will provide a few players with a chance to change their gaffer’s opinion of them.

Ben Davies wasn’t seen at training a few days ago, leaving Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga to marshal the backline. Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon start in Reguilon and Emerson Royal’s stead. The Spaniard should be available off the bench while Royal will most likely still be unavailable, one presumes because of Covid-19 implications.

Harry Winks partners Pierre Højbjerg, while Tanguy Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn get the opportunity, in the most unlikely of situations, they’ve been waiting for. Sonny, Lucas Moura and Oliver Skipp were all notable absentees from training last week.

Again, this projected starting 11 could be as disappointing as Rennes’ unwillingness to compromise, man up and reschedule the final group match against Spurs. Let’s hope so, as Conte would much rather have his starting aces at the ready for this pivotal encounter.
