The 50 Best Tottenham Players of the Premier League Era
10. Jürgen Klinsmann
Position: Striker
Years Served: 1994-95, 1997-98
Stats: 56 appearances, 29 goals
However short lived it might have been, Klinsmann’s career with Tottenham was monumental. He was a star prior to moving to the club and indeed was well known in England, though not for the most favorable reasons. His affiliation with the German national team combined with his reputation as a diver helped sour his first appearances with the club.
But just as soon as he started scoring however, most of that resentment began to dry up. Twenty goals in his first season with the club earned him the Football Writer’s Player of the Year award, as well as Tottenham’s internal player of the year award. He was a talismanic character, the likes of which Tottenham wouldn’t see again for quite some time.
