One of the Best Young Strikers in the World: Tottenham’s Very Own, Harry Kane
Harry Kane Joined Watford and Tottenham’s Academies
After a short stint with Arsenal’s youth academy, Kane who was now 9-years-old would join Watford’s academy. But just like his one year trial, if you could call it that, with Arsenal, Harry Kane would be let go again at the age of 10.
Shortly later Kane would finally join Tottenham’s youth academy when he was 11 in 2004. Here’s Kane continuing on with the Telegraph about his youth career:
“After that I went to Spurs when I was 11. It wasn’t like it took off straight from then, I still had to work hard. There were highs and lows along the way. As I got older and older, I grew up a bit, caught up to the rest of the players my age and it went from there, really.”
Jim White of the Telegraph also delves a bit deeper as to why Kane was released by Arsenal and Watford. “The reason he did not initially turn heads in the academy system was that he wasn’t big and he wasn’t particularly quick, the two attributes much valued in youth development.”
After spending time with two youth academies in quick succession (Arsenal and Watford) and finally joining Tottenham’s youth ranks, this is where Harry Kane’s Spurs’ career would start. But it would still be a few more years before he received his first-team call-up and make a Premier League appearance after graduating from Spurs’ academy at the age of 16 in 2009.
