Matchday: Tottenham 3 – 1 Aston Villa
By Ryan Wrenn
Full Time
Well that seemed much more nervy than it needed to be, but with Harry Kane’s goal in stoppage time the match ends 3-1 to Tottenham.
Despite the fact that by the time they had exhausted their substitutes Villa had five recognized forwards on the pitch, the visiting team managed a decent amount of chances. Jordan Ayew’s goal was more fortunate than skillful and would likely not have gotten past Hugo Lloris had the ball not deflected off Jan Vertonghen first.

That said, Rudy Gestede had a few chances that he was unlucky not to convert better. MacDonald will likely feel a pang of regret for not having started him and Ayew together.
Despite Villa being able to muster a few positives, this was still Tottenham’s game. They managed a good number of attempts that Villa’s defense successfully blocked and continued to be dominant in passing and in possession. Ryan Mason came on as a substitute though was unable to impact proceedings all that much and youngster Josh Onomah made his Premier League debut when he came on for Dele Alli in the 88th minute.

Kane’s goal, when it came, was welcome relief and sealed the result that Tottenham deserved from their first half dominance. This is Kane’s fifth goal of the season after last week’s hat-trick and it’s safe to assume that most of his doubters have been silenced.
With the win, Tottenham goes fifth in the Premier League table, just one point behind Manchester United and two behind Leicester City. Next week’s game against Arsenal looms all the larger.
