Conversation Corner: Tottenham against Swansea City
Mauricio Pochettino:
“Okay, Mauricio’s here at Swansea. Mauricio, two-all, but a game we should have won really.”
“Yes, I think a little bit disappointed, the same feeling that after Monaco. I think worse today because first half only, they have one shot on target and score twice and we create a lot of chance and we dominate the game complete. But you know, that is football and we need to accept that and I think that we need to be very pride from our players. Because the effort was brilliant after playing Monaco three days and the effort was fantastic. And for that we need to recognize that the effort from our squad.”
“I guess it’s difficult to be upset when they do come away and play like that?”
“Yes, no upset but always you’re ambitious and want to win all games. And when you have to pursue the way — I think we need to have more … killer instinct, because we need to just do much better. Because we have a lot of possession and we score two free kicks, and fantastic delivery, from Eriksen. But the easier chance [chuckles] we didn’t score, but that is football and we need to looking forward and to prepare for Liverpool and that is another tough game.”
“Tell us about Christian and these free kicks because he works on them a lot. And as a former player yourself, you know how difficult it is, when it matters, to put one in the top corner like that.”
“Yes he has natural ability, he works hard. But, fantastic, he’s one of the best in the Premier League and yes he’s a very important player for us. And want to congratulate him today because not only — because he score twice but he showed that he was important to the team.”
“I’ve seen you do that plenty of times on the training pitch actually, you can still do that couldn’t you?”
“Sorry?”
“I said I’ve seen you do it a number of times on the training pitch, you could still do that yourself, probably, couldn’t you? If you had to?”
“[laughs] No, I can try a lot but on the training it’s impossible. I don’t have this natural ability he has [laughs].”
“Just the last thing Mauricio. I mean we’re eight games in now, we haven’t lost since the first day of the season, we’re on a good run, it’s an international break now. But the lads can rightfully be pleased with the last six weeks of the season or so?”
“Yeah we need to keep working, be positive. We have a very young squad and they’re fantastic. They showed what we’ve done. I want to congratulate all the staff, sport science and medical staff and the way that they look after the players and help to recover quick after a lot of tough games. And I think it’s fantastic and to recognize them because they work a lot in behind and we need to recognize that they show too.”
