Jan Vertonghen:

“Jan Vertonghen is here with us at Monaco. One-all in the end Jan and we just spoke to Dele Alli, he said it feels like a bit of a defeat after being 1-0 up. What’s the view from you and what’s the view in the changing room?”

“Yeah of course we were on them a lot and were creating I think a couple of good chances as well and I think on the pitch we didn’t have the feeling that we weren’t going to concede. We, I think — we didn’t have possession for, like 90% possession or whatever, but I think we felt quite solid at the back and we didn’t give too many chances away. So for us, yeah it feels a bit like a defeat but at the end, like the last ten minutes it was Monaco was looking for the win and not us.”

“You’re right, I mean they did get in some good positions. But you’re also right, we defended it so well. I say it was almost a bit of a surprise when they scored to be honest.”

“Yeah that’s how we felt. Sometimes you know you’re waiting for a goal to concede but we didn’t feel like that today. Like I said, we felt confident at the back, we were defending well: fullbacks, midfielders, everyone actually. And now in the first game, I’m surprised that they scored, yeah.”

“With that, with Hugo, you and Toby, Eric and the fullbacks around you. So really a good unit at the moment Jan.”

“Yeah we’re doing well but we can’t forget the rest of the team because everyone puts so much effort. You know we don’t have that much room most of the time so I have to give a compliment to the guys around us as well. And yeah, at the moment we’re feeling confident at center-backs and a bit of our fullbacks around us and Hugo’s having a good season, so yeah we feel good.”

“And I gotta say, a point away in Europe not to be sniffed at but just the way the game went. Little bit disappointed we didn’t get the three?”

“Yeah of course, we could have had six points today and an away win in Europe is sensational so it’s a shame we didn’t get that one. But yeah, we’re top of the group and hopefully we can win our next games and we should be close.”
