Reports indicate that Spurs have made a £15 million offer for Borussia Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter, but does he fit in well with Tottenham’s plans?

German online publication Bild confirms Spurs’ transfer bid for the native of Freiburg. Ginter is assuredly the type of player befitting of Tottenham’s current mold.

Preferring to play in a central role, he has the ability to play beside Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld as the third member of the defensive triumvirate.

Ginter is also able to seamlessly slide into right back, offering competition for Kieran Trippier if rumours of Kyle Walker’s probable departure come to fruition.

He is blessed with the kind of expansive versatility – if required in a jam – to commandeer a central defensive midfielder role, too.

Tall, slender yet physically strong, Ginter has the prototypical build of world-class center back. He hasn’t yet reached that level but has the ability to do so, especially if provided the opportunity to consistently work with Maurcio Pochettino.

He’s only 23 years old, slightly under Spurs average age, a mere pup in center back terms.

The exact embodiment of Mauricio Pochettino’s ideal player, Ginter is indefatigable, energetic, industrious and is keen on developing into an élite player.

The £15 million purported price tag is slightly over the £11 million Tottenham paid to secure Wanyama’s services a year ago but it’s a transfer that could bear similar fruit.

Ginter has made over 60 appearances in the last three seasons with Dortmund. Adapting to the breakneck speed and physically robust nature for which the Premier League is renowned, due to playing in a league fashioned on similar virtues, would be expedited.

Next: Tottenham turn eye toward midfield depth

Tottenham are considered the Ginter sweepstakes frontrunners, with interest coming from other teams, particularly Hoffenheim.

The Jack of most trades, even at his impressionable age, has played in the Champions League and is a regular in the German national fold. That injection of experience and depth would be invaluable, particularly in the Champions League, for the current Spurs side.

And having World Cup winner on his CV certainly adds to the player’s overall desirability.

Adding a player of Ginter’s potential, versatility and pedigree would augment and reinforce the winning culture Pochettino is establishing at Tottenham.
