Tottenham have been linked with Real Madrid’s Isco to bolster their attacking midfield depth.

With the summer transfer window closing at the end of the month, Tottenham are looking to secure a deadline day deal for Real Madrid midfielder Isco.

The Spanish international has been a starter for Los Blancos since arriving from Málaga three years ago for £25 million.

The Mirror are reporting that Spurs could sign the 24-year-old on a season-long loan with an option to permanently buy the Spaniard.

If a deal is agreed between both clubs it would prove to be a coup, but this move is unlikely to happen due to two factors.

The first reason why a deal would prove to be difficult is that Isco has been a starter since he joined Real Madrid.

In three seasons, he has made 151 total appearances in all competitions, and at least 30-plus appearances in La Liga. A majority of them being starts (20-plus games).

To go from a starter to the bench is not something that most players would be keen on doing.

If Isco is okay with a backup role behind Dele Alli (which is highly unlikely) then a loan move would obviously make sense.

All Spurs would have to pay is his wages and according to Total Sportek, it’s allegedly £60,000-per-week which would put Christian Eriksen’s contract extension and other players on hold.

The second reason why a deal won’t happen is the most obvious one: Tottenham and Real Madrid aren’t on the best of terms.

This has been the case ever since Spurs sold Luka Modrić in 2012 and Gareth Bale a year later, as well as having a one-sided affiliation with Los Blancos for about two years.

Dealing with Daniel Levy is a hassle for all clubs and it’s unlikely that Florentino Pérez, Real Madrid’s president, would want to do business with his English counterpart once again.

More from Tottenham Transfer Rumours

The only way Spurs can see themselves signing Isco on loan is if Dele Alli reverts to the bench and the Spanish international starts in his place.

That, and Levy decides to pay the 24-year-old’s wages as well as however much Real Madrid would demand should Tottenham decide to buy Isco.

Because the reigning Champions League winners paid £25 million for Isco’s services and he has been very solid for three seasons, Real Madrid would most likely ask for the same amount or even more.

No matter what the outcome is, this could seemingly be another one-sided affair that doesn’t benefit Spurs one bit.

Isco is a good player and would get minutes in Mauricio Pochettino’s offense, but there is more negatives than positives clouding this transfer rumor.

A quick fix solution for attacking midfield depth is getting Son Heung-Min involved when he’s fit and giving Josh Onomah some more playing time.

Otherwise, Spurs are better off looking elsewhere for more midfield help than trying to get a discounted deal with a club such as Real Madrid.
