Tottenham’s backline doesn’t need to be bolstered this summer, especially the right-back position as Kieran Trippier doesn’t see himself leaving Spurs this summer.

After being announced as a target by Southampton via the Daily Star three days ago, the former Burnley defender has spoken about his supposed transfer and how it was more or less fabricated by the media and not by him.

“I’ve been down here just focusing on training and playing,” said Kieran Trippier (via Lancashire Telegraph).

“I’m looking forward to the new season with Tottenham and playing in the Champions League.”

“I am really happy at the club. We have great lads, a great manager and great staff all around the place and I am not thinking of leaving.”

Although mainly Kyle Walker’s backup after making just 19 appearances in all competitions, the 25-year-old is still excited about returning for his second season with Spurs after arriving from Burnely on a £3.5 million transfer last summer.

“I am so pleased I now have this second opportunity to play in the tournament with Tottenham,” Trippier continued.

“As a footballer you want to play at the highest level you can and the Champions League would certainly tick that box.”

“I now have that chance with Tottenham and I want to take that opportunity.”

“I learnt so much last season, especially about the quality of players we have in our squad.”

“I also learnt a lot about my own position. It was a great experience for me to play in the Europa League against teams from different places with different ideas on how to play the game.”

This isn’t the first time that reports have seemingly linked players to different clubs even though said player isn’t open to a move in the first place.

In this case, Tottenham has no need to sell Trippier.

Even with DeAndre Yedlin waiting in the wings, he still isn’t ready to take the backup role behind Walker just yet.

Yedlin needs at least one more season on loan either with Sunderland or to another Premier League club before Mauricio Pochettino ultimately makes a decision on him.

Hypothetically speaking, if Tottenham were to sell Kieran Trippier to Southampton for £5 million, not only would they get a measly £1.5 million back in profit, but they’d lose a valuable and solid backup right-back who is just as good as Kyle Walker is on offense and defense.

Essentially, Pochettino would regret ever selling Trippier unless DeAndre Yedlin proves without a shadow of a doubt that he is head and shoulders a massive upgrade over the 25-year-old.

And right now, the 22-year-old’s body of work isn’t comparable to that of Kieran Trippier.

In any event, the right-back position isn’t in need of a makeover but it’s good to know that Trippier has made it clear he has no intention to leave Tottenham for a different team to become a starter.

He’s quite happy with his current situation even if he does want to play in more games than what he was offered a year ago.
