My Tottenham Starting XI For Liverpool

This weekend’s matchup will truly be a test for Tottenham Hotspur as they take on the always talented Liverpool. Liverpool pulled a Tottenham this summer by selling their premier striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona and subsequently making nine additional signings to help strengthen Brendan Rodgers squad. One of those signings, Mario Balotelli, should most certainly make an appearance on Sunday, and prove to be a test for the Spurs defence. For this week’s edition of “If I were Poch”, I will be selecting the lineup that I believe combats Liverpool in the best way possible.

“If I were Poch”

“If I were Poch”, I would once again select starlet goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Not only is he looking like the best player at the club right now, I truly believe that after the transfer window closes, he will be named our next captain. Last weekend at QPR, Eric Dier proved his worth at right back, so I will be selecting him, over the always pitiful Kyle Naughton. At the center back position, new signing Federico Fazio should make his first Premier League appearance next to the reliable Jan Vertonghen. At left back, I honestly think that Danny Rose is the worst player on Spurs currently, so I will be selecting Ben Davies over him, despite him playing in the Europa League on Thursday. I am doing this because in both of their appearances thus far this season, Davies has proven to be better defensively, and more savvy with the ball.

At the holding midfield positions, Etienne Capoue and Nabil Bentaleb have earned their spots as weekly starters. The two have held a great line, and are wonderful at keeping control of possession.

In front of them, my man of the match from last week, Nacer Chadli should get the start at left attacking midfielder. Next to him are the dynamic duo of Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela who will prove pivotal in this matchup as they both must set up and/or score at least a goal.

Finally, at the striker position, the ever-volatile Emmanuel Adebayor should start. While unquestionably talented, I still would have selected Soldado over him if he was not out with a back injury. Hopefully, he can score a much needed goal during tomorrow’s match.
