Eric Dier has become the 14th member of an exclusive club at White Hart Lane – Tottenham goalscorers on Premier League debut. The last player to do that was Roberto Soldado at the start of last season.
The debut goal which Eric Dier scored in the 92nd minute against West Ham United at Upton Park in the opening game of the Premier League season ensured Spurs claimed the three points. It also earned the England Under-21 defender a place on the Tottenham list of players who have scored for Spurs on their Premier League debut.
Having joined Tottenham less than two weeks ago, the 20-yesr-old Dier had made an immediate impact at the club – impressing in central defence and also with his coolness when scoring the late goal.
Played in by Harry Kane, Dier took the ball wide of the advancing West Ham goalkeeper and placed the ball into the open goal. With the goal coming so late in the game it was guaranteed to grab the headlines as it provided Mauricio Pochettino with a winning start to the season for Spurs.
