The expected transfer of central defender Mateo Musacchio is reported by the Daily Mail to have hit a problem over third party ownership. As feared the deal has been complicated by the player’s economic rights and percentage sell-on. River Plate are reported to be in dispute with Villarreal over not just Musacchio but the transfer of other young players.
Vilarreal and River Plate both own 35% of the Musacchio while his agent has the other 30%. Villarreal have tried to buy out River Plate but they have refused to sell and so the Spanish club are asking for a fee of £21m to cover the cost of signing a replacement. Villarreal don’t want to sell their central defender but Musacchio is set on moving to Tottenham where it is thought he would treble his £20,000 per week salary.
This is a transfer which could run and will not be completed as quickly as had been initially suggested only a few days ago.
Central Defenders on their Way
Tottenham are reported in various transfer papers to be prepared to sell either Vlad Chiriches, Michael Dawson or Younes Kaboul. Kaboul has again been linked with a possible mover to Italy in the Daily Express where Lazio are reported to be interested.
The Telegraph are reporting Tottenham’s willingness to sell Dawson and Kaboul and the Daily Mail have suggested that Chiriches could be offered to Southampton as part of a deal to persuade Southampton to sell Morgan Schneiderlin.
Yesterday it was reported that Nacer Chadli was being used as bait in that deal. Just as I suggested Chadli could be reluctant to move to the south coast, so could Chiriches who has been reported to have found it difficult to settle in England and has been keen on a move to Italy.
The Telegraph is reporting that Jan Vertonghen is to be offered a new contract by Tottenham
The Mirror are reporting renewed interest by Tottenham in signing the Swansea striker Wilfried Bony. Swansea are thought to have dropped their £19m release clause and so Spurs and Liverpool could be in competition to sign the Ivory Coast striker. At the weekend the Swansea manager, Gay Monk had spoken of keeping Bony and making him a better player but it appears that the striker is adamant that he wants to leave.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Tottenham have no interest in signing the striker who was at Chelsea last season.
