Would you want Marouane Fellaini or Javier Hernandez at Tottenham?
I read the brief article on CaughtOffSide suggesting that Tottenham could be interested in signing Marouane Fellaini and Javier Hernandez from Manchester United, if the price was right. The suggestion is that Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is drawing up a list of players who he is prepared to dispense with and could use the funds raised to approach United with the view to buying Fellaini and Fernandez.
Fellaini was always a threat at Everton under David Moyes but having overpaid for him last summer, Moyes was never able to make best use of him at Old Trafford. United would have to be prepared to take a huge loss on the £27.5m fee they paid for the Belgium midfielder.
Friends in High Places
Marouane Fellaini started on the bench for Belgium at the World Cup, behind Mousa Dembele but having replaced him in the first game he scored their equalising goal in the win over Algeria and retained his place for the remainder of the World Cup.
While in Brazil, Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen was very critical of Manchester United and accused them of “failing to play to Fellaini’s strengths last season”. The London Evening Standard reported Vertonghen’s remarks,
With Belgium, we know how to use him and I don’t know whether they do in his other team. Marouane always is very important for the Belgian team. I know there has been a lot of pressure on him from the fans in England but in Belgium he always does well and scores goals.
Vincent Kompany also had words of praise for Fellaini.
Tottenham were reported to be interested in signing Javier Hernandez in last summer’s transfer window but like Giovani dos Santos while with Spurs, the Mexican striker appears to play better for his country than for his club.
Since joining United in 2010 he has made over 100 appearances in the Premier League and scored 36 goals.
He was used off the bench by Mexico as they reached the last-16 in the world Cup and scored one goal in the group stage win over Croatia.
You may not recognise Fellaini now that he has shorn his afro following his return from Brazil but would you want either him or Fernandez to sign for Spurs?
These are two players I don’t expect to see at Tottenham.
Would you want Tottenham to sign either player?
