The HotspurHQ survey of the 2013-14 season had two questions relating to the Tottenham managers and Spurs appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.
In the survey, a question was asked to see if fans thought that Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood should have been given more time. The second question relating to the Tottenham managers was to discover who supporters wanted to be appointed during the summer. At the time of the survey Daniel Levy was still working to find are placement but the question was asked in the knowledge that an appointment would probably be made before the review of the 2013-14 season had been completed.
Q. 6: Should AVB and Tim Sherwood have been given more time?
Supporters were given 4 options to this question:
Both deserved more time
It seemed a reasonable question to ask as both Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood had a commendable record as Tottenham manager. AVB had a 55% win record and Sherwood had a 50% win record. There were other issues, however, concerning their management which led to their departure – AVB’s preferred style of play was slow and dull while there appeared to be problems within the squad with Sherwood in control.
In response to the question:
11% thought both managers deserved more time
45% would have given AVB longer to prove himself
13% thought Sherwood deserved more time
31% thought it was correct to sack them
Q. 7: Who would you like to see appointed as Tottenham manager?
The overwhelming first choice among supporters was the Ajax manager, Frank de Boer. He received 45% of the votes cast but second choice was Mauricio Pochettino with 16% ahead of Rafa Benitez on 11%. In total 15 names were suggested as a possible amanager and while the appointment of Pochettino wasn’t the fans first choice option, at least the comments made were supportive.
Pochettino worked wonders at the Saints
One stipulation was made for the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino that he,
must speak English at Press Conferences.
The new Head Coach has fulfilled that requirement in his first interview with SpursTV.
Requirements for the post
One supporter who responded didn’t suggest a name but set down a list of requirements for whoever would be appointed.
Someone who not only motivates the team to bring out the best in each player but who is also tactically intelligent and knows how to win games both in EPL and internationally through strategy and key changes before and during games.
I hope that Mauricio Pochettino can live up to these high demands.
