Season 2013-14 Review (1): Tottenham Player Of The Season

The results of HotspurHQ’s recent survey, reviewing the 2013-14 season has provided us with your thoughts on the Tottenham Player of the Season.

The ten questions in HotspurHQ’s Tottenham end of season survey 2013-14 enabled you to give your views on a number of issues concerning the players, the team and the managers.

Question 1: Who was the Tottenham Player of the Season?

As in all cases where this question has been asked in recent weeks, the question has brought two players to the forefront of everyone’s thoughts. In our survey all who completed the question provided one of two names, apart from one person who suggested Emmanuel Adebayor. Four folk suggested that the two should be tied which has again made it a very close contest. One person thought that no-one was deserving of the Player of the Season title.

The winner of the Player of the Season was Hugo Lloris with 58% of the votes. In other questionnaires, Christian Eriksen has finished marginally ahead of Lloris while in the HotspurHQ Spurs awards the two players finished equal top, based on fans’ views after each match. On this occasion, however, the Danish midfield player came second with 41% share of the votes.

Eriksen was a very influential presence in the Tottenham team during the second half of the season after claiming a regular starting place on the appointment of Tim Sherwood. He showed a consistency in his play with a vision and a touch which set him apart from the other Tottenham midfielders. Over the season, he scored 10 goals with a number of stunning strikes from set-pieces and also provided 10 assists in the creation of goals for those around him.

Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris was deserving of this recognition as he was outstanding throughout the season and as one respondent put it,

Without Lloris, we’d have had more scorelines like Manchester City and Liverpool.

In a very consistent season with many outstanding moments and 18 clean sheets in all competitions, Lloris proved himself to be one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League and a player that Tottenham really don’t want to see leaving White Hart Lane this summer.

Speaking on the Tottenham club website, Emmanuel Adebayor said of Hugo Lloris,

I think Hugo is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
