Tottenham suffered a difficult afternoon in defeat at West Ham but which players took some credit for their individual performance and earn their ‘Spurs’?
Tottenham’s defeat at West Ham was another of those performances which we’ve had to endure too frequently this season – the only solace we fans can take is that it could have been a great deal worse had it not been for the goalkeeping display of Hugo Lloris.
Once again, the French international was let down by his defenders and he could do nothing about the two goals conceded. Lloris was critical of his team in a recent interview and he must again have been wondering what was happening in front of him. The Tottenham back four struggled all afternoon with West Ham playing a long, high ball into the penalty area with the defence parting like the Red Sea to allow Andy Carroll access to the ball.Related Article:

Only rarely did Spurs win the ball in the air and when they did it was usually West Ham who were quicker to the loose ball. Lloris made a number of outstanding saves having been given little cover and with his defenders unable to deal with the high ball at free-kicks and corners, Lloris took it upon himself to come and challenge for the ball at every opportunity.
Christian Eriksen always tried to be creative and was the one player looking to open up the home defence with a telling pass but at times he was too slow to react and was caught in possession or closed down as happened with the opening goal. It was his attempted pass which was blocked and ricocheted fortuitously into the path of Downing allowing him to break free and eventually be brought down with Younes Kaboul red carded.
Kyle Naughton started well but as Spurs struggled so his game dipped. Harry Kane was unfortunate that he was sacrificed when Kaboul was dismissed as his running and commitment might have caused a few more problems to the home defence.
