There has been much speculation on the future of Tottenham’s record signing, Erik Lamela, but the player has said that he is happy to remain at Spurs next season.
Injury has ruined Erik Lamela’s season with Tim Sherwood insisting that he will not appear in any games before the end of the season. Lamela arrived at White Hart Lane at the end of last summer’s transfer window and made a brief appearance in the match against Arsenal at the Emirates. His appearances for Spurs during the first half of the season were infrequent under Andre Villas-Boas and mainly as a substitute or in the Europa League as he became accustomed to life in England and Premier League football.
Tim Sherwood, on his appointment, gave Erik Lamela his league start at Southampton in his first game in charge, then followed two short substitute appearances but the Argentine player hasn’t been involved since the New Year’s Day win at Old Trafford when he was an unused substitute. Reports of back and thigh injuries have kept Lamela out with Sherwood insisting that the player would not be rushed back.
Lamela has been seen infrequently but he is reported to be in Italy at his former club, Roma. This is not, according to the player, a first step to his return to Rome.In an interview on Talksport, their Italian correspondent, Paddy Agnew has spoken to Lamela and explained that the player is at Roma with the permission of Tottenham. Medical staff from Spurs are with him as he works on his fitness and conditioning.
According to Agnew,
The player himself has denied the Italian media going mad over him returning to Italy.
and that Lamela is happy with life at White Hart Lane, injuries apart,
He said I like everything about English football, the grounds are great, the fans are great.
This news might take away some of the conspiracy theories which have been surrounding Erik Lamela throughout the season. Hopefully, he can regain fitness in time for the start of the season and be ready to play for Tottenham.
