Vlad Chiriches hasn’t played for Tottenham since the home defeat to Manchester City when Spurs conceded five goals. He has been out with a back injury and in the following game Jan Vertonghen returned to the team having recovered from the injury which had kept him out since early December.
At a time when Tottenham are extremely short of central defenders – Michael Dawson is injured, Younes Kaboul has returned to the team but never seems to be far from another injury and a spell out while Jan Vertonghen is suspended for the game in Portugal against Benfica in the Europa League.
There has been no indication of a possible return for Chiriches, the Romanian international and captain, who impressed with his enthusiasm and commitment earlier in the season.
Now, there appears to be a possibility that he could be ready to play soon. @HotspurRelated and @AddictedtoSpurs have tweeted comments from @Emishor, a Romanian journalist, which indicate that Chiriches will soon be available for selection.

Chiriches is reported to have said,
I’m not injured any more, I’m fine. I need one more week to recover. I can play after the Saints game.
He further commented,
A lot of lies were said about my situation, but that made me stronger! They can’t destroy me! No injury can take me down, I stayed strong!
With Chiriches apparently ready to return, the question will be whether he is the type of player who is Tim Sherwood’s ‘cup of tea’.
Some of these are internationals and world class but they may not be my cup of tea. Everyone’s got different methods.
Time will tell but if the injuries persist, the manager may be glad to have Chiriches available for selection for the final matches of the season..
