Now those of you who aren’t the proud owners of the 2013 Tottenham calendar won’t know what I’m talking about but that’s nothing new.
As is the tradition, I received the calendar as a present on Christmas Day last year, The selection of players for the new calendar is always of interest – who does the club expect to see out the 12 months at the club?
For 2013, Benoit Assou-Ekotto made an early appearance if the month of February while Gareth Bale was selected for March, perhaps neither was expected to see out the year. Later, Jermain Defoe was Mr July perhaps expecting him to make a summer move but Scott Parker turned up in September, they must have thought his stay at White Hart Lane would have been longer. They played safe with October and November where Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen were selected but Mr December was a real gamble.
Staring down from my study wall, the choice of Emmanuel Adebayor for the month of December seemed rather optimistic – would he make it into season 2013-14 considering his poor form and infrequent appearances since his permanent move from Manchester City the previous August? There was only the late glimpse of Adebayor’s true form as the season drew to a close in the late spring of 2013 but throughout the summer transfer window it seemed that he would be on his way out of White Hart Lane. The early months of the 2013-14 season saw him sidelined by Andre Villas-Boas but the December sacking of the manager presented Mr December with another opportunity at Spurs.
Interim manager, Tim Sherwood gave Adebayor his first start of the season in his first game in charge and the striker impressed with his all-round performance and scored Spurs’ goal in the Cup defeat. He added two more to his tally at Southampton, playing a prominent part in Tottenham’s win.
What will the 2014 calendar tell us about the players’ prospects at Tottenham for the coming year? Watch out if you’ve been placed in February, you’re time at the Lane might be shorter than you expected. Will the selection for March be a sign that someone else will be moving on? If you’re on the September page, you might be feeling secure but you never can tell!
Well, I’ve only to wait until tomorrow and then I’ll know. COYS!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE
