The ‘Happy’ One
They say, “a picture is worth a thousand words”. These two photographs, taken during last night’s victory over Anzhi in the Europa League, of Tottenham manager, Andre Villas-Boas, and his Chairman, Daniel Levy, must speak volumes.I saw the images of AVB and Daniel Levy while watching the match on television but when Alan sent me the two photographs, their faces said it all.
Andre Villas-Boas has gone through a difficult few weeks with much media attention and the stress, strain and worry has been etched on his face over that period. Even during the two hard-fought wins over Fulham and Sunderland, fear of defeat and questions about his future were never far away. Last night two early goals from Roberto Soldado calmed his nerves and in the second half as Spurs responded to the Anzhi goal before half-time with two further strikes, down on the touchline AVB was able to relax and enjoy the moment just as the fans were doing. He was smiling, content with the result and the performance as Spurs maintained their 100 percent record in this season’s Europa League and happy that the striker he had bought during the summer had rediscovered his goalscoring touch. The ‘Grumpy” One
In stark contrast to the manager’s cheerful disposition, during the game the television cameras focused on Daniel Levy. In the Directors’ Box in the West Stand the Chairman, Mr Levy, didn’t appear to be enjoying his evening. He certainly wasn’t entering into the festive season as no flicker of pleasure appeared to cross his face. Stern, serious, unmoved are words which could describe his look.
If one were to ponder on it for too long, it could be suggested that there might be some truth in the rumours that continue to circulate but he might just have had indigestion.
