Tottenham On This Day: Late Goals And Drama At Arsenal As Spurs Draw

On this day, 29th October, 2008, Tottenham took a point at the Emirates as they shared 8 goals with Arsenal. Spurs had a disastrous start to the season under Juande Ramos and Harry Redknapp had come in the previous weekend with Spurs having only “2 points from 8 games”. He had been present at White Hart Lane on the Sunday as Spurs had their first League win of the season against Bolton but the match against Arsenal was his ‘official’ first game in charge.

A Bentley wonder goal put Spurs ahead. 1-3 and then 2-4 down with a minute left – Jenas and Lennon scored to complete an amazing turnaround.

Tottenham got off to the perfect start when David Bentley scored with a wonder strike after thirteen minutes. Arsenal equalised before half-time and William Gallas put them ahead in the first minute after the interval. Emmanuel Adebayor got his customary goal against Spurs to make it 3 – 1 but three minutes later substitute, Darren Bent, pulled a goal back, only two minutes after coming on. A minute later Arsenal restored their two goal advantage.

Approaching the final minute Arsenal still maintained their their two goal lead but Jermaine Jenas scored in the 89th minute only for Aaron Lennon to complete the recovery a minute later as he followed up on a Luka Modric shot which had rebounded off the post.

Within four days of Harry Redknapp arriving at White Hart Lane – Spurs had an additional four points including an away draw against their neighbours and greatest rivals.
