With six points from their opening two games, Tottenham are looking to secure early qualification to the knock-out rounds of the Europa League. FC Sheriff have drawn their two games so far, a scoreless draw at home to Anzhi followed by a 1 – 1 draw in Norway against Tromso. FC Sheriff are reigning Moldova Champions and are currently sitting at the top of the league wit a four point advantage having lost only 1 league game this season.
They qualified for the Champions league but were beaten 4 – 0 on aggregate by Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia in the 3rd Round and dropped into the Europa League play-off Round. They had lost the away game by a single goal but conceded three at home in the second leg. Their team contains six players from Brazil, including their leading goalscorer, Henrique Luvannor. They will be without defender Milo who was sent off against Tromso but they managed to recover from a goal down with 10 men to level the scores in the final minutes.
Tottenham have left Kyle Walker, Paulinho and Andros Townsend in London. Danny Rose and Younes Kaboul are still out with injury as is Etienne Capoue. Emmanuel Adebayor has travelled with the party and should play some part in the game. Young defender Kevin Stewart is also with them but Andre Villas-Boas has a strong squad to choose from.
This is a game Tottenham will feel they can win and certainly have a strong enough squad to do so. The squad players will be looking to make a point to the manager and Jermain Defoe needs only one goal to equal Martin Chivers’ record of 22 goals in European competitions for Tottenham. There is great competition for places in the Tottenham team and for some players this will be another opportunity to show the manager what they can do.
