Who Earned Their Tottenham 'Spurs' Against Aston Villa?

Tottenham responded to their defeat against West Ham with a win over Aston Villa at Villa Park to maintain their challenge near the top of the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas reacted to the defeat by making changes to the team and introducing some of the players who had impressed in the Europa League games.

Speaking to @SpursOfficial, AVB said,

Villa made it difficult for Spurs by denying them time and space to play especially in the first half. Tottenham managed to get a goal before the interval and when they scored the second it left Villa rather deflated.

Who impressed you in the Tottenham team?

Andros Townsend showed his England form in a Spurs shirt and scored the all-important opening goal. After the interval with more space as the Villa defenders tired, he tormented then throughout the half.

Sandro impressed AVB with his fitness on returning to the Premier League for the first time since January when he suffered the serious injury. He was a very forceful presence in midfield both defensively and going forward.

Paulinho was always looking to get forward in support when Spurs were on the attack but how did he not score in the second half?

Roberto Soldado scored his first goal from open play in the Premier League – he took it very calmly and with great confidence and assurance.

Vlad Chiriches made his Premier League debut and impressed alongside Michael Dawson.
