The answer to that question is probably – “No!”. It was a disappointing display from individuals and the team as a unit and it’s quite some time since we’ve had to endure a league result like that. West Ham were well organised and determined to deny Spurs time and space so we’ve had, as Alan said in his blog, “a reality check.”
There weren’t many performances to praise but who was the best in the Tottenham team and deserving of some recognition for their efforts on a bad day at the office or in their case – White Hart Lane?
Andros Townsend caused the most threat to West Ham defence with his pace and running at defenders. He put in a number of crosses but there weren’t enough of his team mates in the area to really make them count. Did Townsend do enough to impress Roy Hodgson and persuade the manager to include him in the England team for the two World Cup qualifiers in the next ten days?
Paulinho got into positions to threaten and also managed to create the two goalscoring chances which Jermain Defoe spurned in the second half before West Ham scored to take control of the game.
