Team: Lloris; Naughton, Dawson, Kaboul, Rose; Capoue, Paulinho; Townsend, Dembele, Sigurdsson; Soldado
Andre Villas-Boas has selected a strong team for the opening match of the Europa League Play-off game against Dinamo Tbilisi.
Subs: Friedel, Fryers, Walker, Carroll, Chadli, Coulthirst, Kane.
Tottenham who have met Tbilisi once before in European competition will be looking for their first away win in Europe since defeating AC Milan in the Champions League tie in February, 2011. They have won away European ties since then but one was in Scotland against Hearts and the other was against Shamrock Rovers in Dublin in the Europa League in 2011-12. Last season while Spurs lost only once away from home, a 4 – 1 defeat to Inter Milan, they drew the other 5 matches.
Hugo Lloris is in goal with Younes Kaboul replacing Jan Vertonghen who did not travel. Kyle Naughton gets a start in his favoured right back position with Kyle Walker among the substitutes. Andros Townsend is starting in place of the injured Aaron Lennon. Etienne Capoue replaces Nacer Chadli to start his first match for Spurs playing beside Paulinho. Otherwise the team is the same as defeated Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Andre Villas-Boas takes every competition seriously and will want a positive result ahead of next week’s 2nd leg at White Hart Lane which comes three days before the north London derby at the Emirates. A good win would give the manager the option of resting some of his top players before the derby.
