Tottenham have completed the signing of the Brazilian international midfielder Paulinho for a fee reputed to be in the region of £17m, breaking their previous highest fee of £16.5m for Luka Modric in 2008.
The announcement of the transfer of Paulinho from Corinthians to Tottenham has been expected for a number of days since the Brazilian bid a fond farewell to the fans in his home country. He scored two goals in that competition, against Japan in the group stages and the late winner which knocked Uruguay out in the semi-finals.
With his attention taken up with playing for Brazil Paulinho didn’t want to make any decision on his future until the conclusion of the tournament although there were clear indications of where his thinking was taking him. The Daily Mail reported Paulinho’s comments at the end of last month.
