As the season draws to a close, there is the immediate speculation about Gareth Bale’s future at Tottenham. After the season he has had all the top clubs will be wanting to sign him and with the continuing uncertainty of whether Spurs will or won’t be in next season’s Champions League – no-one knows how things will pan out this summer. The Champions League issue will be resolved within the next eight days and if Tottenham fail to qualify there will be increased pressure on the club to cash in and sell Bale.
Andre Villas-Boas’ call for Tottenham to give Gareth Bale another new contract will have the full backing of every Spurs fan. The Head Coach is wanting to put an end to all speculation on his star player’s future at White Hart Lane.
In recent weeks the Tottenham manager has tried to play down all the speculation and at his press conference yesterday, Andre Villas-Boas made his thoughts clear in that he doesn’t want to lose Bale and that he wants to see the club offer him a lucrative new contract even though he only signed his current contract which runs to 2016, last summer. In a report in the Guardian, Villas-Boas commented,
“I think he deserves it for the season he’s had. Obviously we could put to bed every single speculation that’s coming out. It would be excellent and I think a reward for what he has achieved this season.”
Every Tottenham fan would support the manager’s view as they fear a summer of constant rumours of clubs wanting to sign the double Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year. The list of clubs who are watching Bale with envious eyes is endless:
- Manchester United’s new manager, David Moyes, would see it as an exceptional way to start his time at Old Trafford, if he could sign Bale.
- Real Madrid are known admirers of the player with Zinidine Zidane, their Director of Football, having made favourable comments on Bale recently. His comments being reported in the Daily Mail last month,
“You can’t compare him, he is unique, he makes things look easy, his pace is frightening. His acceleration is unbelievable because of his ability to go through the gears in very little space. Plus, he is very good technically which is also important, we must not forget that he plays football well. He’s really impressed me….”
- If Jose Mourinho arrives at Chelsea, as is highly expected, then he would like to mark his arrival with a significant signing.
- The richest clubs around the world will try to entice Bale away from Tottenham – Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain
Villas-Boas is optimistic that Bale will stay with Spurs and we hope that he’s right. Bale has previously expressed an interest in playing abroad and hopefully Spurs will be able to keep him until he decides the time is right to move to a foreign club. To lose Bale would be bad enough but for him to sign for another Premier League would be just too hard to beat for Tottenham fans.
