Streaks at some point must come to an end and Tottenham’s 11 match unbeaten streak is now over. Perhaps it shouldn’t have ended as Chris Foy and his missed calls and numerous fouls and handballs had a great impact on the game. The bottom line though is Spurs lost because the dug themselves a 2-0 hole in the first half. They responded well and the second half but came up short losing 2-1. Even with this set back it seems the players are taking it well and they know it’s all on them and have vowed to play better next week. Now on to the player ratings!
Friedel 6: The American made two or three top notch saves including one in the opening minutes but he could have prevented wither of the Stoke goals if he would have come off his line.
Walker 6: Walker had an average game. He was caught ball watching on the first Stoke goal but did prevent a possible scoring chance using his top class speed to track down a back-pass to no one from Parker.
Gallas 6: Made a few vital tackles but was ineffective in the air for the most part but made no major mistakes.
Kaboul 5: Where do we begin? He was caught ball watching on both Stoke goals. Was ineffective in the air and was sent off after receiving a second yellow. He was pulled down in the box though by his arm just one of the many calls Foy missed that led to his first yellow card.
BAE 5.5: Did not have his best game. Made a few mistakes and seemed out of sorts positionally. Was taken out at half for tactical reasons.
Lennon 6: Azza was a non-factor in his one half of football. It doesn’t help that Harry likes to play him on an inverted wing. This must stop but we all know it wont.
Modric 7 (MOTM): Drew the Stoke penalty that resulted in the only Spurs goal. Completed a sublime 89% of his passes. Did not see enough of the ball in the first half but in the second half he took the initiative and was starting attacking moves by going into the heart of the Stoke defense.
Parker 5.5: This rating my be a little harsh but I believe it is deserved because of so many poor passes. Perhaps he has set the bar too high by the way he has played since he moved over from West Ham. Did play better in the second half though.
Bale 6: Was invisible for most of the game. Harry does him no favors by playing him on the right. Should have stayed on the left especially after Woodgate picked up a yellow card leaving him very little room for error.
Van der Vaart 6: Wasn’t his type of game. Stoke packed the middle after getting the lead which did not live him much room to find space. Had to drop very deep (often behind Modric and Parker) just to get onto the ball.
Adebayor 6: The penalty kick was well taken. Should have had another but the linesman blew the call. Looked visually frusterated at times.
Defoe 6: Misfired on two long range shots. Failed to have the impact one would hope.
Bassong 6.5: Did very well as part of the three man backline in the second half. Helped win aerial balls in the box, passed better than BAE.
Gio N/A: Late attacking sub who made little impact. Will probably be sold or loaned in January.
