Stoke v. Tottenham Quick Post Match Thoughts

by Spurs

Public Enemy #1

-Football is a game of two halves and in the Premier League if you have one off half it’s hard to get the three points. Spurs did not show their best side in the first half today as Stoke dominated physically not allowing us any space to move the ball. I wrote in the game preview that Spurs would have to limit the damage from Stoke’s set piece circus. Spurs did not take this advice and they chose to buy a ticket and popcorn for the Stoke circus enjoying the ball watching just a bit too much.

-Down 2-0 at half Harry Redknapp made the right proactive changes (a rare occurrence) switching the formation to a 3-5-2 bringing on Defoe for Lennon and Bassong for BAE. This is a good sign and hopefully we will keep it up when needed but hopefully we will not find ourselves in such positions for such radical changes to be made at half..

-How many hand balls and pulls downs in the box does it take to get a penalty called? The answer must be more than five. Did the fact that we got a penalty earlier in the match make Foy swallow his whistle? That about the only thing that makes any sense to me.

-Adebayor was onside by a good yard or two this match should have been level in a worse case scenario but it did not happen that way. The question is how will Spurs respond? A top club will regroup, learn and keep going onward. Are we a top club? I would like to say yes but we will have to wait to find out. I feel sorry for Sunderland next week, we might be a little more than fired up at the Lane next weekend.
